Musk, lilies, sage, quince, strawberry jam drip from the glass and remain in the palate as glycerine. The Wine is loaded with liquorice but remains so beautifully restrained and has a freshness and is so complex. The Wine is amazingly concentrated and almost fascinating. This (dessert) Wine is certainly on the price but only a fraction of a Yquem for example.

Domaine Weinbach, hands down, is the greatest producer in Alsace in our view. The estate produces great perfumed, single-vineyard white wines in a range of sweetness levels. Its Riesling is, of course, exceptional, but so is the Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, as well as other white varieties. Grapes are all sourced from prized Grand Cru vineyards. The resulting wine is a noble and supreme expression of the Alsace terroir. The estate lies at the foot of the Schlossberg slopes. Running through the property is a playful stream in which the estate derives its name.
